During the weekend of 13 and 14 December 2025, the federal government accounts will be transferred from bpost to BNP Paribas Fortis. This short transition period may temporarily affect bank transfers.
IBAN remains unchanged
The IBAN of all federal government accounts will remain unchanged. You can recognise these accounts by “679” in the IBAN (positions 5 to 7), for example: BEXX 679X XXXX XXXX. This also applies to VAT payments, such as the payment of the periodic VAT return (IBAN: BE22 6792 0030 0047).
Important for payments from abroad: new BIC as from 15 December 2025
For payments from abroad, the BNP Paribas Fortis BIC must be used as from 15 December 2025: GEBABEBB. If the BIC is stored in your vendor master data or bank details and is used automatically, we recommend checking this in good time and updating it where necessary.
Freeze period: avoid payments between 12 and 14 December 2025
On Friday 12 December 2025, bpost will close the federal government accounts. The transfer to BNP Paribas Fortis will take place during the weekend of 13 and 14 December 2025. To avoid a transfer being rejected, we recommend not initiating payments between 12 and 14 December 2025.
Please schedule urgent payments before 12 December 2025, or from 15 December 2025 onwards, and have your payment settings reviewed where relevant.
